Verdict

FollowMeter is a long-running unfollowers app for your own Instagram account. It shows who left, who doesn’t follow back and who ignores your posts, but it needs your Instagram login, and logouts and security checks are the most common complaint in recent reviews.

Good for: Cleaning up your own account: unfollowers, non-followers and ghost followers.
Skip it if: Seeing who someone else follows, or anyone who won’t hand over their Instagram login.

What FollowMeter does

FollowMeter connects to your own Instagram account and keeps a history of changes to it. The main lists are who unfollowed you, who you follow that doesn’t follow back, mutual followers and “ghost” followers who never like or comment. Version 7.0, released in July 2026, added a live activity feed that groups unfollowers, story viewers and profile changes by the time the app last checked.

Data refreshes when you open the app or pull to refresh. Paying PRO users also get notifications when something changes. You can add several Instagram accounts and switch between them, which is a PRO feature.

FollowMeter only works on accounts you can sign in to. There’s nothing in the app, on its website or in its store listings about watching another person’s follows.

Do you have to log in?

Yes. Step two on followmeter.com is “Connect your Instagram”, and reviewers describe signing in with their Instagram username and password inside the app, then confirming the login on Instagram or with a two-factor code. The privacy policy doesn’t explain how the connection works.

FollowMeter says it only reads data you can already see and never posts, likes, follows or messages for you, so it shouldn’t trip Instagram’s automation rules. Some recent reviewers disagree. The most common complaint is being logged out of Instagram, asked to verify again and again, or warned about suspicious activity. A smaller number say their account was restricted or disabled after connecting. These are user reports we couldn’t verify, but they show up often enough to factor into the safety score.

Price

The free version covers basic unfollower tracking. On the US App Store, FollowMeter Plus costs $3.99 a week, $4.99 a month, or $23.99 or $39.99 a year, depending on the offer you see. A one-time PRO unlock is $8.99. Some single features are $1.99 each: Secret Admirers, Blockers, Ghost Followers, the Insights Pack and a paid “Discover Spot” that promotes your account inside the app.

All of this shows up in the App Store before you buy. The catch is that several features most people want are paid, and the add-ons stack on top of the subscription.

Ratings and what users say

FollowMeter has about 4.1 stars from roughly 24,000 ratings on the US App Store and about 3.1 stars from roughly 157,000 ratings on Google Play, where it has more than 5 million downloads. Its website shows a “4.8 average rating”, which doesn’t match either store when we checked.

In about 150 recent US App Store reviews, the positive ones say it works for cleaning up non-followers. The negative ones focus on login trouble, refreshes that fail or take more than ten minutes, and features that stayed locked after paying. In 2024 the developer replied to one review that new Instagram protocols make it hard for apps like this to work.

Privacy

According to the App Store privacy labels, FollowMeter collects purchase history, identifiers and usage data, uses some of it to track you across apps, and uses it for third-party advertising. Google Play’s data safety section says it may share app interactions, user and device IDs and purchase history with third parties, and that the data can’t be deleted. The privacy policy dates from June 2019.

Who should use it

FollowMeter makes sense if you want to tidy up your own account and accept the login risk. If you’d rather not give an app your Instagram password, or you want to see who another public account follows, look at the trackers that work without a login in our ranking.

Frequently asked questions

Is FollowMeter safe?

It needs your Instagram login, and some recent App Store reviewers report logouts, repeated verification and, in a few cases, restricted accounts after connecting. FollowMeter says it never posts or follows on your behalf. Whether that risk is acceptable is your call.

Can FollowMeter see who someone else follows?

No. It only analyses Instagram accounts you sign in to. Nothing in the app or its listings mentions tracking other people’s accounts.

Is FollowMeter free?

Basic unfollower tracking is free. Plus starts at $3.99 a week or $23.99 a year in the US, and several features are $1.99 add-ons.

Does FollowMeter show who viewed my profile?

No, and FollowMeter itself says Instagram never shares profile views, so any app that claims to show them isn’t telling the truth.
